From Ambleside, take the A593 towards Coniston. At Skelwith Bridge (approx 3 miles from Ambleside), cross over the bridge and continue up the hill towards Coniston for half a mile and as you begin to level out "Stephen How" driveway is on the left hand side. You will see a triangular shaped rock on a stone gateway. There is a turning point on the right hand side, or you can continue on for 500 yards to a lay-by to turn around.
